The small, picturesque coastal town of Blaine is located on the U.S.-Canadian border. The amity between these two huge countries is celebrated by the International Peace Arch, which straddles the border with one foot in each country. A jointly-maintained state park and provincial park of beautifully landscaped gardens surrounds the arch. With I-5 passing through town, Blaine is also the busiest crossing between Washington and British Columbia.
On Puget Sound, you'll find Semiahmoo County Park on the spit of land that wraps around Drayton Harbor. The park includes a museum with a restored sailboat, local history exhibits, and information on salmon fishing and canning. Nearby is the Inn at Semiahmoo, a golf and health resort. To the south, Birch Bay State Park offers clamming, crabbing, water skiing, hiking, and camping. The park also features Terrel Creek Marsh, one of the few remaining saltwater/freshwater estuaries on Puget Sound. Ride the historic foot ferry, Plover, across Drayton Harbor to Resort Semiahmoo (May - September).
