Situated near the geographic center of the state, this small city is the commercial center for the agricultural and cattle-raising country of the Kittitas Valley. Mixing small town sophistication and cowboy frontier culture, the town is home to both Central Washington University and the Ellensburg Rodeo, a PRCA event held on Labor Day weekend. Rockhounds come here to search for the Ellensburg Blue, an agate unique to the area. You can visit the Kittitas County Historical Society for displays of rocks and minerals as well as pioneer and Indian artifacts. The Clymer Museum displays the works of artist John Ford Clymer, whose Western-themed works occasionally graced the cover the Saturday Evening Post. Olmstead Place State Park features a pioneer farm and log cabin built in 1875.
