One of the state's two great fruit-growing, packing, and shipping centers, Wenatchee draws thousands to its ten-day Apple Blossom Festival beginning in late April. Apple-lovers will find several other year-round attractions. The Washington Apple Commission's Visitor Center offers films on apple-growing and samples of several varieties of the tasty fruit. The Apple Industry Exhibit displays interesting historical harvesting equipment. The exhibit is attached by skybridge to the North Central Washington Museum, where you'll find exhibits on railroading, aviation, pioneering, Native Americans, and the area's natural history. Be sure to see Ohme Gardens County Park where lush vegetation has been coaxed from the bare mountainside above the Columbia River Valley. Enthusiasts of winter recreation will find Mission Ridge Ski Area in the Wenatchee National Forest, while both whitewater rafting and scenic float trips are available on the nearby Wenatchee River the rest of the year.
