In 1837 a small New Hampshire town moved almost en masse to this site on the Rock River and named the community Beloit. In an effort to maintain standards of eastern education, they founded Beloit Seminary, today Beloit College. The campus boasts Logan Museum of Anthropology, Wright Museum of Art, and 22 prehistoric Indian mounds. Visit Lincoln Center and nearby Hanchett-Bartlett Homestead, a restored farmhouse of the 1850s with its display of 19th-century toys, pioneer tools, and utensils.
