Norwegian Moravians founded this scenic village in 1853 and it has become one of the best-known Door County resort communities. The Scandinavian-inspired Fyr-Bal Fest welcomes the return of the sun, ushering in the warm days of summer with bonfires, fish boils, an art fair, and the Blessing of the Fleet. Tours of the village's historic district include the 1848 Goodleston Cabin. You can also visit the Anderson Store, a general store of 1858 with typical merchandise of the era, and the Pioneer Schoolhouse, which operated from 1880 to 1949. Peninsula State Park, one of Wisconsin's largest and most scenic, just south of the village, has camping, fishing, swimming, nature and biking trails along the Green Bay shoreline, a championship golf course, and historic lighthouse with guided tours (May through October).
