With its huge college-age population, Madison supports a lively nightlife
scene. Live blues, jazz, rock, and R&B keep the rafters shakin' at the
upscale Brink Lounge, Wednesday through Saturday nights. An eclectic lineup
of live sounds from alt rock to bluegrass can be heard live most nights at
the High Noon Saloon; you can even become your own rock star on Tuesdays
when live-band karaoke takes over. For jazz, try Cafe Montmartre, a wine bar
with live music several nights a week. The Concourse Hotel also features
live jazz on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. If you're seeking
out the pleasures of a brewpub, Angelic Brewing Company offers its local
concoctions plus live music, from blues to beach music, several nights a
week. For something just a little bit different, stop in at the Essen Haus;
you'll find German cuisine on the menu, a truly impressive beer list (16
German beers on tap and over 270 at hand), and a live orchestra playing
oom-pah-pah plus other bands on weekends. Country stepping is the
order of the day at The Bean; they have regional and national bands (country
and rock) most nights. The Comedy Club on State presents stand-up
jokers from the national circuit Thursday through Saturday. For club
listings, pick up Isthmus.
