Located on the western shore of Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest inland lake, this city offers a wide variety of recreation, including fishing, sailing, and powerboating. Paine Art Center and Gardens is an English Tudor manor with period rooms, European paintings, and Oriental rugs. Nearby is Oshkosh Public Museum with exhibits on American Indians, art, and natural sciences. The Grand Opera House (1883) has been restored to its original Romanesque grandeur. Visit Menominee Park Zoo. The Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture Museum is fascinating. The association's annual Fly-In Convention is in July at adjacent Wittman Regional Airport. The world's largest gathering of antique, modern, and do-it-yourself aircraft enthusiasts, it annually attracts over eight hundred thousand participants. On the Fox River, there is the new outdoor Leach Amphitheater for concerts and musical festivals.
