The gateway to the Door County Peninsula is known for shipbuilding, salmon fishing, and processing millions of cherries produced on area farms every summer. Along the canal connecting Lake Michigan to Green Bay, you'll see many ships of impressive tonnage passing daily. You can visit the Maritime and Door County museums where artifacts and exhibits recall the history of the area. The Farm offers historic buildings, nature trails, and farm animals that youngsters can hold and pet. The works of Door County and regional Midwest artists are displayed at Miller Art Center. You'll find recreational opportunities and marvelous natural beauty at Cave Point County Park, north of Sturgeon Bay, and Potawatomi State Park, south of Sturgeon Bay, on the water. Whitefish Dunes State Park has the highest sand dunes in the state.
