Located in downtown Sacramento, this museum specializes in the artifacts of northern California native groups covering the last 400 years. These peoples included the Maidu, Wintun, Yuma, Pomo, and Chumash. The holdings include an exceptionally fine collection of baskets, woven by the Pomo, Karook, and others. There are hands-on exhibits for children, an introductory video, and a gift shop. The museum also hosts special events each year, including Ishi Day, Gathering Our Elders, Acorn Day, and the Arts and Crafts Holiday Fair. Call for dates.
