Located in the San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts, this museum of science, art, and human perception has been called the best science museum in the world by Scientific American0 . 650 interactive exhibits, displays, and artworks comprise the permanent collection, in addition to which the Exploratorium traditionally offers two major temporary exhibitions each year and a variety of programs. Facilities include a multimedia Learning Center, a 150-seat theater, a life science laboratory, a Webcast Studio, as well as a store and cafe. The artist residency program has hosted more than 250 artists. Call 415-561-0399 for directions to the museum. Parking is free. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 AM to 5 PM. Free admission the first Wednesday of the month. Closed Mondays (except holidays), Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
