This trendy little beachside resort attracts unconventional writers and artists. Within its compact 8.3 square miles are 75 museums and galleries and more than 400 restaurants, cafes, and pubs. You'll also find eight public beaches and two fishing piers. Third Street Promenade, with sidewalk cafes, street musicians, and artists, is a popular hangout of the local rich and famous.
