What is Junction View?

Junction View will provide key information at challenging intersections along your route. A screen will appear that shows the sign which your route follows and the lanes that you can use to stay on your route.

Charging your IntelliRoute TND

While the computer does provide power, it does not provide enough to efficiently charge the device. So the device should never be charged thru USB.

Checking your battery status

When the device is not plugged into a power source, a battery status bar will show up on the top of the Home Menu screen.

Can I use the computer to charge my device?

The TND requires a strong AC current in order to charge quickly and sufficiently. While the USB port on your computer provides enough power to allow your computer to recognize the unit is attached, it does not provide enough power to completely charge the battery in a timely manner.

How do I update the Unit Software in the IntelliRoute TND?

Updates are made available through the Rand McNally Dock. When you connect your TND to your computer, you will be prompted to download the Dock software, which will inform you of any available updates. An Internet connection is required to download the updates to your computer, and the Dock will then enable you to transfer them from your computer to your TND.

How can I see the total miles of my trip on a multi-stop trip?

At this time, this feature is not available. You are only able to see the number of miles until the next stop in a multi-stop trip.

What does maintenance alert mean?

One of the features of your device is a mileage log that will warn you when your truck is due for a maintenance check. This log is accessed through the Truck Tools option on your main screen and may be modified to warn you at any mileage from 0 to 999999 miles.

Can I enter my own route into the device?

At this time you are unable to enter your own route into the device. However you are able to detour around portions of your route. See the FAQ entry for detouring.

When your IntelliRoute TND is plugged into a power source the red LED in the bottom right hand corner will be illuminated. This LED will turn green when your IntelliRoute TND is fully charged.

This looks like a standard USB power plug. Can I use a power plug from my BlackBerry or some another device to power the unit?

No. There are a couple of different types of power supplies, and varying amounts of amperage that are produced and they are not universally compatible. Please use only supplied Rand McNally power cords or you may damage your IntelliRoute TND.

What is the gear or sprocket button that appears on the map screen of my IntelliRoute TND?

This gives you quick access to actions related to your current location or route. This button will give you detailed information about your current location, including your address and latitude/longitude. You can make adjustments to how your route is calculated or manually add in detours for roads that you do not want to drive.

What kind of warnings and advisories can I receive on my IntelliRoute TND?

Tap the Truck Tools button, and then tap Warnings. Here you can adjust warnings related to trucking usage, such as end of your Driving day, On Duty day and weigh stations. For warnings applicable to both car usage and truck usage, check in Preferences for such things as posted speed limits, state borders, & toll roads.

No, we have to show that screen to satisfy the End User License Agreement associated with our product.

While navigating a route: Tap the sprocket button in the lower left hand corner The Location Route Options Window displays Tap Detour The Detour Window displays On the left side of the window, tap the number of miles on the route to be avoided. Why does the total mileage shown in my log appear incorrect?

If you were driving without a GPS signal or with your IntelliRoute TND off some mileage may not have been recorded. Some trucks may allow limited visibility to the sky and make GPS reception irregular.

How can I view all turn by turn instructions on my IntelliRoute TND device?

On the map screen there is a button on the right hand side of the screen. When it is pressed the "turn by turn" instructions will slide out onto the screen. Use the arrows on the bottom to scroll up and scroll down through the route steps. Can my IntelliRoute TND show me the speed limit for the road I am on?

The speed limit will show up in the bottom right hand side of the map screen. Please note that speed limits change all the time, so make sure that you obey the local posted speed limits.

Why is the speed limit sometimes in an orange box, sometimes in a white box, and sometimes in a red box?

The IntelliRoute TND displays the best available speed limit information. Not all roads have truck speeds, but where they are available, they will be shown in orange. If not available, the car speed limit will be shown in white.

How do I change the speed at which I am warned? I set it to 65MPH but it's not working.

In Preferences, the Speed Limit Alert is set for the amount you want to exceed the speed before you see a warning. So if you set it to "5", it will warn you if you go 65 in a 60, or 45 in a 40, etc.

Rand McNally Dock will allow you to back up your address book to your PC. Simply connect your IntelliRoute TND to your desktop or laptop using the USB cable provided. Select the Backup button.

How often should I check for updates for my IntelliRoute TND?

We recommend that you check for updates every 2 - 3 weeks.

Routing Questions

Why does it take me on a certain route when I know there is a better one?

There are many factors that are taken into consideration when calculating a route making it difficult to determine why one route is chosen over another. The first thing to consider is your truck settings. Verify that all settings are correct and within the legal limits for the route in question. If you still feel that the route is still incorrect, feel free to report it to us using the TellRand feature on your device.

Why is the address I entered showing incorrectly by x number of feet?

GPS devices carry the beginning and ending address of each block and the addresses in between are calculated as a percentage along that block using an algorithm. This works well in most cases and ensures you will arrive at the correct block.

Why when trying to calculate a route, am I receiving the following error, No truck-legal route could be found for this truck configuration?

You will need to change the weight, height, hazmat, etc., in Truck Info to find a valid route. Verify the Truck Info is correct on your device. There could be a HazMat restriction that needs to be adjusted to match your load or the size of your trailer may need to be changed. If these are correct and you still cannot calculate a route then feel free to use the Tell Rand McNally feature in Truck Tools to let us know!

Why do I sometimes find map errors in Rand McNally products?

Communities alter the legal truck routes from time to time. Due to the complex nature of gathering all of this data together, there is a lag from when a change occurs to when it appears in a device. If you see a posted truck restriction that is not in your IntelliRoute TND, we encourage you to use the "Tell Rand" button on the Truck Tools screen. We will incorporate your changes into future map releases.

Error Messages

I get an error that says my License is out of date or invalid. What should I do?

You need to immediately download updates via the Rand McNally Dock. Connect your device to a computer and follow the onscreen instructions. There are some basic instructions included in the Quick Start Guide or you can call us at Customer Support (800-333-0136) and we'll help you walk through the updates.

My computer does not recognize my TND

There are several things you can try: 1) Be patient! This can sometimes take a couple of minutes the first time 2) Restart your computer 3) Try a different USB port 4) Try plugging the device into a different computer (if you have one) Also, some computers may have trouble recognizing the TND unit especially if the computer has a modern power-efficient processor. If this is the case, using a powered USB hub usually resolves this issue.

No GPS signal

Make sure that your product has a clear view of the sky. Trees, buildings and the roof of your truck can interfere with the IntelliRoute TND's ability to get a signal. Also, it sometimes takes several minutes to acquire a signal for the first time.

Navi.exe error or Illegal Operation

Please call customer support at your earliest convenience to resolve this issue. You will need to have access to a computer with a strong Internet connection

My device is warning me that my memory is too low, what do I do?

If you leave the device on all of the time, you are in danger of filling the memory with GPS data. The best way to avoid this problem is to turn the unit off for a short while when you are not driving.
