Update: The ELD Mandate

Expected to be published in the Federal Register last month, the ELD (Electronic Logging Device) mandate requiring the use of electronic logs for all Hours of Service tracking is experiencing another delay. The rule has yet to clear the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), but is predicted to do so soon.

Once cleared, the FMCSA said it will publish the report containing the proposed rules, followed by a public comment period of 60 days. After the public comment period, the FMCSA will adjust the rules. The American Trucking Association predicts the final rule will come at the end of 2014 or in early 2015.

One thing is certain, the ELD mandate is coming. Stay tuned for more updates.
